Steins Gate Gets a Live-Action Play

Steins Gate is one of the most popular visual novels in recent years. It spawned not only several other side-story games but also an anime (and sequel movie). But that's not all. This past week saw the close of the Steins Gate live-action play. And like the anime before it, it proved to be an excellent adaptation.

The most interesting thing about the play was how it dealt with the visual novel’s numerous endings. Simply put, depending on when you saw the play, the ending was different—with six possible endings in total.

Living ADV: Steins Gate ran from October 12, 2013, to October 20, 2013, in Tokyo's Zepp Diver City Theater. The play (with all six endings) will have a limited release on DVD in February, 2014. There is currently no word on a Western release. Read More..

PLOT

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed "mad scientist" who believes that an international scientific organization named SERN is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Okabe is the only one aware of these changes because he possesses a Reading Steiner, the ability to retain the memories from previous experienced timelines. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab partners.

Kuroshitsuji (Black butler) Live Action Movie

It was announced in January 2013 that the manga will be made into a live-action movie starring Ayame Goriki as Shiori Genpou, and Hiro Mizushima as Sebastian Michaelis. Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Sato are the co-directors. Filming began in April 2013 and the movie is scheduled for release on January 18, 2014.

PLOT

The story is set in the year over 2020 in an Asian city where Western and Eastern cultures blend together. A young woman named Shiori Genpou now runs the Phantomhive family. However, only men are allowed to lead the family, so she disguises herself as a man name Kiyoharu. As a descendant of the noble family Phantomhive, Shiori solves difficult cases which are ordered by the queen. Sebastian watches over and protects her as her butler in exchange for her soul.Their deal involves Butler Sebastian protecting Ciel.

Gatchaman Crowds Gets A Second Season

Gatchaman Crowds based on the classic science-fiction hero series Gatchaman. The story is set in Japan in the early summer of 2015. 180,000 people live in Tachikawa City, the "second metropolis" of the Tokyo area. Among them are "Gatchaman" — warriors who fight in special reinforced suits powered by "NOTE," the manifestation of special spiritual powers in living beings. A council has scouted a group of individuals with latent powers to protect Earth from alien criminals. In recent years, the council has assigned Gatchaman warriors to deal with the mysterious entity known as "MESS."


The season will air on NTV, and more details such as the broadcast schedule and staff will be announced in the future.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX is an HD remaster compilation of the Kingdom Hearts series and follow-up to Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5 ReMIX-. It includes full HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix. It also includes a collection of cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

Assassin's Creed Movie coming in 2015

Michael Fassbender will both produce and star in the film. Critics have speculated that Fassbender will be portraying series-lead, Desmond Miles, though this has neither been confirmed nor denied. Fassbender said: "I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting — the idea of reliving memories."

It will be distributed by 20th Century Fox and produced by Ubisoft Motion Pictures for a planned release of 19 June 2015.

As the year is closing in, I think its time to put together my personal Top 10 favorites. Long running series do not count and this list is mostly about new shows that aired in 2013.

PLOT:

In this utopian village, strange rumors about a monstrous cat that abducts children circulate, and students are said to disappear from the academy. The world and its history are much darker than they appear and humanity is on the verge of collapse.

In exchange for the help of Yoshino and Mahiro, Hakaze will help find the culprit behind the murder of Takigawa's sister.

Psycho-Pass

PLOT:

Psycho-Pass is set in a future where it is possible to instantaneously measure a person's mental state, personality, and the probability that a person will commit crimes, all through a "cymatic scan" of the brain. The resulting assessment is called a Psycho-Pass. When this probability, measured by the "Crime Coefficient" index, is too high in an individual, they are pursued and apprehended—with lethal force, if necessary. The plot focuses on a young adult named Akane Tsunemori who is a new police officer known as Inspector within Unit One of the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division. As an Inspector she hunts criminal alongside a special team of so called latent criminals (people whose Crime Coefficients are deemed too high, and without chance of recovery) called Enforcers. Both Enforcers and Inspectors use magnum-esque "Dominators", special weapons designed to fire only on those with a higher-than-acceptable Crime Coefficient. During some of Akane's first investigations, the group learns of a mastermind behind multiple crimes, Shogo Makishima.

A small percentage of humanity survived by enclosing themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.
